I knew Seaford in East Sussex holds its town market on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month, so I stopped by during the August Bank holiday weekend to see if it had any local producers that I had not come across before. I discovered that it was not a big market with only 3 or 4 stalls selling local produce – mainly bread, other baked goods and cheese. There was also a fishmonger, Three Acre Brewery and a range of craft and plant stalls.
From the market, I could hear the sound of the sea and walked through the local streets that led to the quiet beach. Heading back to the car, I followed the signs for the old town and came across a wonderful greengrocer called Fruit & Veg (31A High St, Seaford BN25 1PA). As the name suggests (!) this wonderful unpretentious shop sells a large range of predominantly local and English-grown produce including plums, damson, greens, tomatoes, sweet corn and more. The owner was really friendly and we soon got chatting – I learned so much about the area. Worth a visit if you are in and about Seaford.
